Why
does Humble ISD need a police department? |
|
Just like all
other ISDs in the Harris County area, our security needs have
grown to the level that the primary law enforcement agencies
for our district could not handle the volume of calls to
service adequately without hiring additional personnel. Also,
Humble ISD is located in five agencies' jurisdiction, so these
agencies would be unable to answer calls in every part of the
district. Our officers have jurisdiction for the entire 90+
square-mile area that makes up Humble ISD. |
|
Can
Humble ISD officers do everything other police departments can
do? |
|
Yes, our
policeman are Texas peace officers. |
|
What
makes our district officers different from the Sheriff's
department, the municipal police, or the constables? |
|
Our district
police officers make up a specialized law enforcement agency |
|
Do our
police officers write real tickets, and what happens to the
tickets they write? |
|
Yes, our officers
do indeed write real tickets. Once issued, they go to either
Pct. 4 or Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace court. If a ticketed
individual fails to contact the court, a warrant for his/her
arrest may be issued. |
|
Can
our officers arrest adults and/or juveniles? |
|
Yes, our officers
have this authority, just like any other peace officer in the
state of Texas. |
|
Can
our officers take action against a non-student if they are not
on school district property? |
|
Yes, if an
officer witnesses an offense, he will take action and let the
agency who has primary jurisdiction in the area know what has
occurred. |
|
Do
Humble ISD officers have any authority at school functions
that are not held on district property (i.e. prom,
graduation)? |
|
Yes, wherever
HISD functions are held, our officers have authority on the
property. |
|
If
other police departments need assistance, can our officers
respond? |
|
Yes, just as
other law enforcement may respond to our officers' assistance,
so may they respond to calls for assistance from other police
departments. |
|
How can I find
out how much a citation will cost? |
|
Call the Justice of the Peace
court at 281 – 446 – 7191. |
